Default Exhaust Ideas - front engined car

Needs to be light, and there isn't much room to run the pipes all the way back... Would like to keep the heat off my legs too, which doesn't bode well for running them in the trans tunnel or using side pipes.

What do you think about just running some short supertrapps, and leaving them on a short length of pipe right off the headers, to terminate up front under the car? Very lightweight, and tuneable... No problems with heat, no excess weight... On the downside, I'm not sure I like the sound as much as a chambered muffler, but it seems worth it for the weight savings.

Here's my car thus far: http://exocars.net/showthread.php?t=2207&page=3

Not sure on the legality, as it exits ahead of the passenger compartment, but it will be under the car at least. Registered as a 7 replica I'm not sure it'd matter anyway.

Here's the supertrap I'm looking at :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330297589061&ih=0 14&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=

With a 3.5" inlet dia, it could be bolted right to the header collector. I'm not sure if the dB reduction with what is essentially a glasspack muffler and a diffuser put together would be... hopefully enough that the tone wouldn't be obnoxious.. Anyone running a supertrapp?

I was thinking if it did end up too loud, I could add some of those header noise-reduction cones or inserts.. As long as its bearable, it would be nice to go for a long drive without something too loud.

Karlo - How much did the supertrapp quiet things down on your FZ?

I think once you add your cats (2) and the supertraps you should be OK. My Supertraps was 15 years ago,--- no cost est.

Side pipes are a thought.. I'm just worried about all that heat radiating off the pipes, right alongside my legs, hot hot hot! Even with a heat shield and header wrap (which might look kinda goofy anyway).

Still looking into what is legal in Ohio... Seems to depend on whether its titled as a self-built, or titled as a replica (shouldn't be hard to get it titled as a Lotus 7 replica). If self built, the inspection is simple, but it muss pass current e-check as a 2009 vehicle. If a replica, I believe it only needs to conform to the original vehicle's standards (1957-1972). The latter, however, might bring on more complications, like higher insurance rates...

I'm still undecided

Sidepipes.

By the way, glad u r doing this work now, exhaust's are a pain in the ass and drive many people mad especially on a front engined car. I have seen a few specials built and people leaving the exhausts to last with dire consequences.

Okay, sidepipes! lol, I was really just going for least amount of piping and lightest muffler.. I might be willing to run pipe down the side of the car, into a Supertrapp or similar, which I guess would then end right about at the end of the passenger compartment.

Given no rules/regulations, I'd still have it go into the supertrapp right off the header, and exit right behind the front tires!!
